There is the fourth superstition that someone will die when a crow sings.
I heard this when I was a child many times, which made me believe in it finally. Although I could not find any practical story behind it, there is a crow named “Yatagarasu” in Japan’s myth.

Yatagarasu is known as the messenger of the deity, which guided the first Emperor Jinmu to Nara where he was enthroned.
It is also known as the emblem of Japan’s football team.

Until the late 20th century, bodies were buried under the ground and food was offered to deceased ones in the tombs so crows gathered to eat them.
That’s why the image of the crow might get linked to the tombs or funerals.
Since a crow is the messenger of the deity, they might be recognized that they might know the death timing.
After Japan was westernized around the late 19th century, Japanese mourning attire changed from white to black.
The image of the crow might have started to be linked to the funeral.

This is off topic, but my mother experienced twice in the opposite way.
It means that a crow sang after my grandfather and my father passed away.
In my grand father’s case, a crow sang for more than 15 minutes.
According to her, she felt like both my grandfather and my father coming and telling their appreciation.
This superstition might not be supported by many people anymore.

祖父の場合、カラスは15分以上も泣いたそうです。
母によれば、祖父や父の霊が来て、感謝を伝えてくれるように鳴いたそうです。
この迷信は、多くの人にはもう信じられていないかもしれません。
