What comes to mind when you think of Tokyo?
I guess there are so many different answers depending on people.
Some choose photogenic places, others might choose delicious local cuisine.
Do you agree that the Tokyo Tower is one of the symbols of Tokyo?

The Tokyo Tower was completed on December 23rd, 1958 as a broadcasting tower.
The new broadcasting tower is the Sky Tree, but it is said that the Tokyo Tower still has the function of its backup.
In addition, the Tokyo Tower still uses as a radio tower for radio broadcasting.

It is 333 meters tall, which was the highest tower around that time.
In 1959, the second year of Tokyo Tower, the crown prince Akihito and crown empress Michiko got married and their wedding parade was broadcasted from the Tokyo Tower.
Although having a TV was not so popular around that time, it was said that more than 2 million TV were sold out before the wedding.
Everyone in Japan was excited for the royal wedding.

Believe it or not, the same amount iron of one-third of the Tokyo tower is made from the scrapped combat vehicles or tanks used in Korean War.

Japan needed a lot of iron, while the U.S. had many scrapped combat vehicles and transporting them to the U.S. was costly and burdensome.

There is observatory decks called “main deck” and “top deck” so that you could enjoy a 360-degree view of surrounding area like Tokyo Skytree, Mt. Fuji and the bay side including Rainbow Bridge called Odaiba, if the weather is fine.
If you are lucky, you might also see a worker who cleans windows.

You can go to the main deck by elevator or on foot.
There are 600 steps(See the photo below).

On the first floor of the main observatory, some parts of the floor are embedded with glass so that you can step on them and look down at the tower and the ground(See the photo below).
It sounds fun and exciting, isn’t it?
If you have acrophobia or fear of heights, I would not recommend you to go there, though.
After the sunset, the illuminations of the Tokyo Tower are also beautiful.

家にテレビがあるということが稀であった当時ですが、二百万台以上のテレビが売れたそうです。
日本中がロイヤルウエディングに湧いていました。
美智子さまは、皇族でも華族でもなく、平民のご出身だったため、国民の関心がとても高かったのかもしれません。

信じられないかもしれませんが、東京タワーの三分の一に相当する鉄が朝鮮戦争で廃棄された戦車から作られたそうです。
大量の鉄需要があった日本と、廃棄された戦車を母国に運搬する費用と手間を負担に感じるアメリカの利害が一致したと言われています。

「メインデッキ」と「トップデッキ」と呼ばれる展望台があり、天気が良ければ東京スカイツリーや富士山、お台場と呼ばれるレインボーブリッジなどの湾岸エリアなど周辺地域を360度眺めることができます。
運が良ければ、窓掃除をする方にも会えるかもしれません。
メインデッキへはエレベーターまたは徒歩で行けます。
600段あります。
日頃からトレーニングを積んでいる方は挑戦してみてはいかがでしょうか？

メインデッキの1階は、床の一部にガラスが埋め込まれており、その上を歩いてタワーや地上を見下ろすことができます。
楽しそうでワクワクしませんか。
ただし、高所恐怖症の方にはお勧めしませんが…。
日没後には、ライトアップが楽しめます。
