After mastering the way of painting Shikunshi, four plants such as orchid, bamboo, chrysanthemum flowers, and Japanese plum blossom, the next object should be natural landscapes including mountains and rivers called “Sansui-ga”.

“Sansui-ga” of India Ink painting implies not the paintings of natural landscapes in the real world but the paintings of imaginary landscapes where mountain hermits who have the power to confer immortality live.
Painters’ imagination, creativity and mental power are required.

Mountains, which are reminiscent of deep mountains and dark valleys, and waterfalls,
Modest residences where the troglodytes who depart worldliness live,
And a clear stream should be depicted.
