Nara Great Buddha in Todaiji Temple

The Great Buddha of Nara (Todaiji Temple) is the most famous statue of Buddha in Japan.
The original one was built in 752 as the 200th anniversary of Buddhism’s arrival to Japan.
It was rebuilt after it burnt down twice.
Its height is about 15 meters, while its weight is 250 tons.
It is placed in the most giant wooden building in the world.
However, it is said that the current building is only two-thirds of the original building.

Kamakura Great Buddha in Kotokuin Temple

The second largest Buddha is situated in Kamakura.
It was built in 1243 at Kotokuin Temple.
Its height is about 11 meters, while its weight is 121 tons.
It’s seated outside after the main hall for the statue of Buddha was gone due to natural disasters including typhoons and tsunamis.
Its back has two windows so that you can enter the statue of Buddha and look it up from inside.
It’s interesting!
