The New Year Greeting held on January 2nd of 2018.

One of the most anticipated activities to welcome the year is visiting the Imperial Palace.

As I mentioned in the previous article, the New Year Greeting held on January 2nd is another rare opportunity to meet the emperor and his royal family members.
Anyone has the chance to meet the emperor by simply going to the palace and lining up to receive his message.

This video was shot on January 2nd of 2018.
I was one out of 126,720 people who visited the Imperial Palace on that day for New Year’s greeting.
It was the second-largest number of visitors, while the largest number was 154,800 in 2019.
It was the last opportunity before the former Emperor Akihito abdicated from the throne.

Unfortunately, the New Year Greeting was canceled both in 2021 and 2022 because of the pandemic.
We hope that next year, it will be celebrated together with the emperor for a prosperous and peaceful year.

What are the most common new year events in your country?
